    The Big Reveal

Okay, finally the Big News is here! I've published an ad in Sacramento Bride and Groom magazine! I have 4 appearances: Page 176, 226, 62, and 105. You can check it out at Borders, Barnes and Nobles, Raleys, Bel Air, and......other places I'm not sure of. Yaaaaaaay!!

    Full Page, Full Color, baby!!

    Gigantic Sweets!

I had jury duty yesterday. This time I brought a backpack full of stuff to keep myself busy. I was excused. Yaaaaaay! But it took until 4:30 pm for that to happen.

I recently went to Claim Jumper Restaurant. It's got a western saloon atmosphere--antler chandeliers, giant buffalo and moose heads decorating the walls, a fireplace... What makes the restaurant really stand out is the giant food portions. My mom and I ordered the famed chocolate eclair, and we couldn't believe what came to our table. It's enough to feed 6 people! You've gotta see the 6-layer chocolate cake, it resembles a tree trunk stool!

This is the eclair! It's filled with ice cream, custard, whipped cream, and bittersweet warm chocolate.

    A Daily Ritual

Pillows strewn across the floor. Magazines and newspapers ripped to shreds. Toys everywhere. Shoes and blinds half eaten.....all compliments of Panda Snow Bear, my puppy. Well, I guess he's not too much of a puppy anymore, he's about a year now. It's like having a child! We have to keep constant watch on him. If he's not in the room with us, we have to wonder what he's up to. I don't mind the messes too much. In fact, I give him magazines and shipping boxes to chew up--we have to keep him busy! I must say, everyday there's something new....

Emerging from my room 30 minutes later, I walk into the living room....and what a surprise!

This is what happens if I don't close the door to my room before leaving the house. He trys to look through the blinds as I walk away from the house. Unfortunately, his "looking" involves teeth and nails.

Have you seen the Coco Chanel commercial with Kiera Knightly?? I love it! And I love the song by Joss Stone. I loved it so much I added it to the Nellie Photography website soundtrack. If you haven't seen it, here it is below...

    New Photos

I've added both new and reworked photos to Nellie Photography's image portfolio. I'll probably continue to add to the portfolio over the next couple days. Check it out. Here's a little preview...

This was from a music artist session. He's a producer for a local rap group.

This photo was taken in a japanese garden in the Bay Area. Perfect scenery! She's an old friend of mine. We lost touch like 8 years ago, but then reconnected through Myspace. Is that an addictive website or what?

This was from an engagement session earlier this year. Fun couple. And I think this is hilarious. It shows a lot of personality.

An emotional moment as the bride is about to be given away by her father. Looooove it!!

    Bigger Photos!!

Yaaay! Now my blog will have larger photos! I couldn't figure out how to do it until I got advise from Carla Ten Eyck, a photographer from Hartford, Connecticut. Special thanks to Carla for helping me out!

    Random Facts

I decided to list a few random facts about myself....I know you're dying to know!

    1. I'm really beginning to like Amy Winehouse.

    2. I watch The View every chance I get. But, I think Barbara and Whoopi are boring.

    3. I burned my leg on a motorcycle exhaust when I was in junior high, and never got on a motorcycle since.

    4. I own all 3 Shrek movies and hope there will be a 4th one!

    5. I can't stand when people bite their forks or spoons. The clinking sound makes my skin crawl!

And since all posts deserve a photo:

I call this: "Push mushroom, push!"

    Just Because....

Here's a random photo for the day. These fabulous orchids were placed on the kitchen table because my doggy kept snatching the moss out of the bottom of the vase.

    Vibrant Bellydancer

I had the opportunity to photograph Reina Karizmah: a bellydance performer, instructor, and choreographer. She's so fun to photograph because she knows how to work the camera--her facial expressions, her hand movements, and her body language all blend together seamlessly as if she's performing on stage (maybe her training in acting has really payed off!). I've always admired how she was never afraid to just be herself.

Reina is promoting her services. You can contact her for a consultation at:

I love her costume's vibrant colors!

Gorgeous!! This is my absolute favorite of the bunch.
I love the fall enviroment--it brings depth to the photo.

    Website Gliches

Oh no!! Yesterday I discovered that the new website layout has a few gliches. Most viewers won't be able to see the whole webpage design. Also, some of you might be having problems hearing the new website soundtrack. I'm working on that right now. Hold tight.....

But overall, what do you think?

    Changes are a Comin'

I know its been a while since I last wrote. A lot has happened in the past few months. We had a family tragedy. But we are slowly recovering.

I've been working a lot behind the scenes. Nellie Photography is getting an extreme makeover. You should start seeing changes in December. I'm really excited about it.

I also have some big news, but I won't reveal it just yet....wait just a couple more weeks.

Also, starting in December, our pricing structure will change. So, if you have any photo sessions or products you want to squeeze in before pricing goes up, now's the time to do so.

    Getaway Portrait Session

You can now take advantage of Nellie Photography’s local Getaway Portrait Session and have your pictures made at a great location—with no session or travel charge! Plus, have hotdogs and drinks on us!

On September 29-30, 2007, we’ll be holding sessions at Foothill Community Park*. Sessions will be held every hour and will last approximately forty-five minutes. Feel free to bring a friend or family member along: we can do two or three groupings just as easily as we can do one during your session time.

    Terms and Conditions
Spaces and times are subject to availability.

Based on the size of the family groupings, portrait sessions may have a $150 minimum purchase requirement, which can be applied to the purchase of engagement albums, photo greeting cards, collage prints, or any other product on our a la carte price list. The $150 minimum purchase requirement will be applied to every 5 subjects being photographed. Therefore, if a family grouping has 4 subjects, the $150 minimum purchase requirement is applied. On the other hand, if a family grouping has 7 subjects, a $300 ($150 x 2) minimum purchase requirement is applied.

Due to the fact that a limited amount of session space is available, it is important that you modify your scheduled appointment time a minimum of one week prior to the session. All late cancellations will be subject to a $100 cancellation fee. If you are unavailable to participate on the specified date or do not want to adhere to the minimum product purchase requirement, you are more than welcome to schedule a session on another date.

Please select the date and time that appeal to you and call us at 916.628.6676 or email us at info@nelliephotography.com, to secure your spot.

I believe in helping other small business owners by promoting their services. Featured here is a friend of mine whose headshots and business cards were just completed by our studio. She is a very talented hairstylist. I had the privilege of having my hair designed in a beautiful up-do some years ago. She's located in the Sacramento area, is available to travel, and styles men, women and children.

Her business name,"Allisha.i.r", is a really cool and creative acronym. It's pronounced: All-is-hair, which stands for: Allisha's Image Reflections. I think it's cool how she was able to incorporate her own name into the title.

I wish her success in her business endeavor because I know she's been waiting to launch this for a long time. Give her a call at (916)214-2385 or email her at allishair@comcast.net.

    The Simpsons

Hey, check it out, I'm Simpsonized! Is that cool, or what? Simpsonize yourself at http://www.simpsonizeme.com/. I'm working on simpsonizing my whole family and making a silly family portrait. I'll show you the outcome at another time. Has anyone seen the Simpsons Movie yet?

    Reasons to Smile

I picked up this book from the drug store-- "It's a Happy Thing". It's a gift book from Hallmark. The book features people's comments and thoughts when they were asked the question, "What makes you happy?" I like it because it focuses on the simple pleasures in life.
Be ready for random happy thoughts appearing on the blog. They'll be thoughts excerpted from the book, as well as from my own little head.
Let's start our own collection of happy thoughts! Leave a comment explaining what makes you happy. If we get enough entries, maybe we can publish our own book!!!

We got a puppy! He's 7 months. He's a Pomeranian. His name is Panda Snow Bear, but we call him "Panda" for short. Isn't he cute! He's so hyper and funny, he cracks me up all the time. He's already torn up my flip-flops, a pillow, gift wrap, gift bags, magazines, and a squeaky toy. He's starting to chew up table legs, carpet, undies, and the wooden stairs. I'm definite there's more to come...but that's okay, We Love Him!!

Here's Panda's headshot. I think he's got modeling in his future...
The head cocked to the side is always cute. He did this whenever he heard the shutter click. He couldn't figure out what I was holding in front of my face.

Those puppy-dog eyes just get me every time.
Don't even think about chewing up mom's flowers!!

He finally wore himself out. He sat for about 30 seconds for this shot. Just trying to keep up with him during our little photo session had me breaking a sweat.

His head reminds me of a black bear in this photo.

Engagement Session with Jessica and Rob

I just finished an engagement session: Jessica and Rob--what a fun couple! They really relaxed in front of the camera, and we got some great shots. They're so funny! I got to capture a lot of their playfulness.

We shot on location in Historic Folsom, CA. I find it cute, quite, and romantic. Even though it's close to home, I never took the time to stop and look around until scouting locations for this shoot. But now that I have, I'm definately going back for a little window shopping and some dinner (hint, hint).

They were so easy going that they had no objections to sitting on the ground when I asked!
    "Who me???"
This shot killed her back, but look at that beautiful hair! She sacrificed herself for the sake of art.
    "Mysterious and Coy".
It was close to 97 degrees when we were shooting on this bridge. That's 25 degrees over my limit!! The bridge shots took some patience because other people were trying to cross at the same time. At one point, we had to jump out of the way of a biking group of young kids. Had to make sure we got a good ring shot!
I love this picture! It's a great action shot. And don't forget about her shoes in the left-hand corner...funny!
This was one of the last shots of our session. We shot this using only streetlight. I like the warm, festive feel.
It may seem corny, but I love my lollipop idea! They played off the idea, and their expressions worked perfectly. And...it just so happens that they're standing outside of a candy store...is that a coincidence or what!?

    "Lucky Sevens"

Congratulations to our 7.7.07 couple, Andrew and Brandy!

I had the privilege of spending the whole day with them, beginning with documenting the bride's morning preparations, and ending with the last goodbye hugs at the reception. I really enjoyed their families--they were welcoming and a lot of fun. And best of all, their photos came out beautiful! Best wishes!

    Showcase of the bride's shoes.

    Showcase of the bride's dress.

    Time for the make-up!

Cool shot of the bride and her bridesmaids.

Here's a fun shot of the whole bridal party.

    The groomsmen- Mafia style!

The bride and groom finally get a moment alone...

    Cute close-up!

    "Baby Cakes"

Check out our new "Baby Cakes" promotion! The idea: Give the baby cake and let her go at it! Special thanks to the Colemans for welcoming me into their home in order to test shoot the idea. We had a lot of fun during the shoot. I love the bright colors...and check out that cake--it has lots of character! I made it myself! I was worried at first, but it turned out the cake worked perfectly--leaning in all its gooey glory! What a great session for one year olds. Book your session now to qualify for the summer special. Or, purchase a "Baby Cakes" session gift certificate for a friend.

    Here's a composite...good idea for a wall size print.

    A great "old photo" effect...

She's trying to sniff the cake--cute!

    What a beautiful mess!

    Yum, yum.
