    Helloooo Illinois!

It's funny because ever since I started this blog page, I've been getting a lot of hits from Illinois and even a few phone calls. (Yes, I can see my blog reader's stats. Don't worry it doesn't tell my email addresses, names, etc. Just the general stuff.) But anyways, I figured out a while ago that there is another Nellie Photography out in that area, Peoria, Illinois to be exact. I've even contacted her to refer clients back to her that contacted me on accident. She was so thankful. She even playfully complained about how she wished she had my web address, because it's much easier to remember--but I got it first ;)

Nellie Photography Sacramento, CA (me): http://www.nelliephotography.com/
    Nellie Photography Peoria, IL: http://www.nellie-photography.com/

    No affiliation, of course.

But anyways, if you're reading this and you didn't mean to pay traveling fees for your wedding photography, you may have meant to contact the OTHER Nellie Photography, who by the way is an absolute fabulous photographer. Just click on the appropriate link above to find your way...but I love that you stopped by!!

    Thank you. Come again.

    DJ Service Recommendation

As a mentioned before, I recently attended Sacramento Bride and Groom Magazine's networking event. I met and retouched with some great people and wedding vendors. One of those, was David Dodson from D3 Productions. David's down-to-earth personality and professionalism add to the charm of his already fabulous DJ technique. Be sure to check out his website:

    Hair and Makeup? YES!!

As you may know, we've been searching for hair and makeup artists to glamorize our pin-up and boudoir clients (come to think of it, we may use the stylists to glamorize all our clients!--seniors, models, music artists, brides...).

Well, last week while attending Sacramento Bride and Groom's networking party, I think I may have found our stylist! I'm so excited! I can't reveal everything just yet because talks are still in the works. I think this particular salon will be a perfect match--even our branding styles are similar: glitz, glam, girly, sexy, hip. (Did I just say "hip", excuse me). We hope to make this salon our exclusive stylist. Another plus: The stylists will even come to the studio. We're gonna be a one-stop shop!

Once the details are worked out, I will definitely reveal all the great news.

Pin-Up Photographer and a Body Painter...

Wow, has it been a week since my last entry?? I've been so busy preparing for the Pin-Up sessions I've been lacking in the blog department. But anyways...

I was browsing the web looking for interesting photo ideas when I came across an interesting collaboration. Maxim Kalmykov, a fabulous photography guru, teamed up with body painter, Helen Demi. Together, they did a few shoots (one of them a pin-up shoot) where Helen actually painted the clothes onto the models. It's done so well and tasteful, that I could barely tell where the paint began or ended. The images created left me in awe and inspired. Check out Maxim Kalmykov's website:

    Whoa Mama!

Did you guys see Christina Aguilera on the Ellen Show? Christina came on the show soon after she had her baby, and needless to say, she is breastfeeding. I've always enjoyed Ellen's witty comments. Watch this video. Funny!

    To Friends...

My cousin sent me one of those "forwarding emails", and this one actually stuck out to me because it's so true:

You might be best friends one year,
Pretty good friends the next year,
Don't talk that often the next year,
And don't want to talk at all the year after that.
So, I just wanted to say,
You are special to me and you have made a difference in my life,
I look up to you, respect you, and truly cherish you.
No matter how often you talk, Or how close you are,
Let old friends know you haven't forgotten them,
And tell new friends you never will.
Take comfort in knowing Somebody out there cares about you
    and always will.

It makes me think of the friends I was so close to in high school, and how we really don't talk or hang out too much anymore. I feel guilty because life has taken over. But I want them to know that we'll always be friends, I'll always love them, and expect a call, or a card soon!

There should be a national "Friend Day" to celebrate old and new friends. And Hallmark would make a killing!

    A Boone Family Portrait

I did a family portrait session last weekend at the Boone's family home. We shot the session right smack dab in the middle of the living room. It seemed we had to take a million photos just to get everyone looking in the same direction, everyone's eyes open, and everyone not making silly faces. But that's okay, cuz it was fun! They're gonna have a whole series of hilarious images that they could use for a fabulous memory album.

Hey Blog readers, vote for your favorite photo by clicking on the "comment" link below. The first photo to reach 25 votes (honor system) will be gifted to the client as an 8x10 print. So start posting your votes for the Boone Family!

    Some More Pin-Up Inspiration....

I loved the movie, Moulin Rouge. The movie had stunning visuals and a fabulous soundtrack. The whole movie is gorgeous! I loved the architecture and the costumes...there was just so much going on, I had to watch it few times to grasp everything. I've found that Moulin Rouge has given me a lot of ideas and inspiration for our upcoming pin-up photography sessions. Even the music video, Lady Marmalade (which I posted above), is reeking with ideas. Check it out!

My Mission: Why I Plan to Shoot Pin-up/Boudoir Style Photography

I've been thinking about the above question. My first thought was that I wanted to shoot Pin-up simply because I love the vintage style, the simplicity, and the tamed sexiness. But then, it got deeper, and I realized that there are a number of reasons why I want to offer this type of session at our studio. For starts, here's one:

"We want to confront society's misguided messages about what a woman should look like in order to be considered beautiful."

We are real women, and as real women, we don't always have taut stomach muscles, perfect breasts, and smooth, dent-less thighs. But, that should by no means hinder us from feeling just like the alluring seductress that we see on magazine covers. There's no reason why we shouldn't (and couldn't) be photographed the same way. And personally, I plan to make that vision happen.

    It's a conspiracy I tell you!

I've been suffering from migraines ever since I graduated from high school in 2000--I guess the shock of entering into adult life took its toll on my body ;) But anyways, I was prescribed Imitrex, which works for my migraine pain only half the time. The crazy thing is that the pills come in this little rectangle box, just like the one below, and there's ONLY 9!! Usually I pay $30 for the pack with my med insurance. But, because it's a new year and I now have to meet a deductible before my med insurance will kick in and help out with prescription charges, I had to pay $220 for the pack.

Let me repeat that in case you missed it: $220 FOR 9 PILLS!!!! (That's $24.44 per pill, just in case you were wondering.)

AND, I have to take like 4 pills for the onset of 1 migraine just for it to ease a little of the pain. That means, that each migraine costs me over $100, but that doesn't include the other prescribed pain meds and the OTC pain relievers I use along with the Imitrex.

So what does all this boil down to? The government and the medical field are in cahoots and have some kind of devious, money-making conspiracy going on. But there's nothing we can do but surrender, which is conveniently easy to do since we're already crawling in on our knees, bent over in pain. So we just open our wallets and hand over the plastic...
